Essay Scholarship Contest

  • Applicant must be a high school senior preparing to enroll at an accredited two or four year college or university in the 2017-2018 school year, or a currently enrolled full time student at an accredited two or four year college or university. Future and current online college students are encouraged to apply.
  • Contest winner will be required to show proof of enrollment. College acceptance letters or college transcripts are accepted.
  • Applicant must be able to prove residence in one of the following Massachusetts towns: Acton, Ashby, Ayer, Bedford, Billerica, Boxborough, Burlington, Carlisle, Chelmsford, Clinton, Concord, Dracut, Dunstable, Groton, Harvard, Hudson, Leominster, Lexington, Lincoln, Littleton, Lowell, Lunenburg, Marlborough, Maynard, Pepperell, Shirley, Sudbury, Tewksbury, Townsend, Tyngsboro, Westford, Wilmington, Woburn.
  • Applicant may submit one (1) essay of their choosing, which must be at least 750 words, but no more than 1,000 words. The essay, and any accompanying artistic rendering, must be original work of the applicant.
  • Essays are due February 28th, 2016 by 11:59 p.m. (EST). Submissions after this deadline will not be considered. Note: Proof of enrollment is required to win the scholarship but not required to submit your entry in the contest. Winners must show proof of enrollment before receiving a scholarship

Rules & Regulations:

  1. Judging: The winning essay will be judged on the following criteria: content, style, creativity, and how well the winning applicant presents his or her point of view.  All entries will be selected based on popular vote by attendees and exhibitors of the Nashoba Valley Smart Home Show and/or a panel of judges to be determined by contest sponsors.   Depending on the number of entries, the judging for the contest may be done by online voting and/or at the Nashoba Valley Smart Home Show on March 11th and 12th.  In the event of a tie the contest sponsor will select the winner.  The decision of the judges will be final.
  2. Prize: The person who submitted the winning essay will receive a one-time scholarship of $1000 to be used on school related expenses in the form of tuition, fees, books, and on-campus room and board. These funds must be applied to the 2017-2018 academic year. Funds are provided by the Littleton Business Association and/ or one of the Nashoba Valley Smart Home Show sponsors and will be paid directly to the accredited college or university of the applicant’s choosing on the applicant’s behalf.
  3. Submission of Materials: All scholarship applications must be made through the scholarship form that can be found at www.SmartHomeShow.org. No hand written letters or hard copy submissions will be accepted. All essays must be submitted via the site accompanied by an optional artistic rendering. The Littleton Business Association and/or our Show Sponsor reserves the right to publish content from the essays submitted.
  4. Eligibility: Current or former Littleton Business Association directors, Sponsor Owners and/or Employees, Volunteers and/or employees of the Nashoba Valley Smart Home Show or immediate family are not eligible for entry. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Applicants must prove they are either about to enroll or are enrolled in school at an accredited two or four year college or university during the 2017-2018 school year. School accreditation is based on this website: http://ope.ed.gov/accreditation/Search.aspx.   The decision as to accreditation made by the contest sponsors will be final
